Help with Framing
Most of the work on sale is unframed. There are good reasons for that
A few works are shown as framed: that means they have been on show somewhere, usually at an exhibition or artfair or in a gallery
Pastel works have some special requirements for framing unlike other artworks. this is because of the nature of the medium which is pure pigment held in place by the tooth of the surface. A layer of fixative is added to hold the pigment in place more securely.
This makes them easier to ship unframed
The major requirement is that they have to be framed behind GLASS to prevent them being touched which can move or dislodge pigment. Glass when shipped by parcel services requires extra careful packaging and hence extra cost and always carries a small risk of breakage. Clear Acrylic can be substituted but this is not recommended as it is electrostatic and carries the risk over long periods of time of attracting small particles of pigment from the surface of the painting and forming a ghost image. (I have not noticed anything significant over a period of 2-3 years but then I can live with that - I haven't purchased them with an expectation of archival quality)
Mostly I prefer to ship unframed because the choice of frame is a very personal one and can be location/decor dependent and there are hundreds of styles to choose from so I think it is best for you to make your own choice from a local framer. I offer some advice on framing here
If you do not want to use a local framer I can offer a restricted choice of frame and mount. I aim to make this available as an option at time of purchase once I have agreed terms with a framer local to me. Until then contact me before purchase.
